2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sipsey Valley finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Sipsey Valley finished sixth in Class 4A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bears have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2016. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Sipsey Valley averaged scoring just 13.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Sipsey Valley football program has struggled with a record of 17-45. The Bears are led by head coach Antonio Ford who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-35 over the past five seasons at Sipsey Valley. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Ford. Coach Ford's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 17-35 (32.7%). The Sipsey Valley Bears will play in Class 4A region four during the 2016 season. The Bears have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 68-42 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 4A and 26th in the AHSAA. This season, the Bears will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. The Bears open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Winfield on Thursday, August 18 at Estes Hudson Stadium. Last year the Winfield Pirates finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in first place in Class 3A region five. The Pirates lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Colbert County by a score of 26-20. Sipsey Valley and Winfield have met a total of 2 times on the football field.
